January Desktop

I created my January desktop last night. I used papers, embellishments, and quick page from Verena Karolyia Designs "Brr It's Cold Outside" kit, available at digitalfreebies.com, and the calendar is from 2009 January CD TTV Calendar, available at CottageArts.com.

Brrrrrr and it's only December

IT IS COLD!!!!! We weren't going to venture out at all today but I had to go out late this afternoon to pick up some coaxial cables. I drew the short end of the straw.

One good thing came out of staying in--I got my new TV set up in my "office." The bad news is the cable box doesn't seem to be working and I've been on the phone off and on for three hours with tech support. Tomorrow I need to take the cable box in and get a new one.

I did get some scrapping done today and cleaned up a couple pictures from Roger's family's Christmas get together. I've still got more to clean up and scrap. I'll leave you with a couple more pictures from last night.

Playing with cars

One of Luke's favorite things to do at Grandma and Grandpa's house is play with his cars. He has oodles of Hot Wheels, which he loves to race down his track. But we also have three PT Cruisers, the same color as my car. He loves these cars.

The following products were used in this layout. They are all available at Natural Designs in Scrapbooking (http://www.ndisb.com/store/).

Christmas Layouts of My Grandchildren

Carrie had the kids pictures taken and they were so great I decided to use them for a Christmas layout since (1) it's impossible to get them all three together in one picture, and (2) my next chance would probably be Christmas morning and having a group picture taken would be the last thing on earth they would like to do.

I decided to take the same layout and do one for Jaren. I might try a different picture in the layout since I've already scrapped this picture several times.

My weekend

I've had a good weekend. Did some scrapping this weekend, tried to figure out how to make blinkies (no luck yet), babysat Jaren today, and completed a layout for the color challenge at Designers Digital.

Saw these pictures of my older three grandchildren from their recent photography session. I think I have the most beautiful grandchildren, just like every other grandma thinks hers are the most beautiful.

The History of Aprons

I've received the following recently from a couple people. I think it is very interesting, especially since I mentioned to my daughter about the comeback of aprons and so for my birthday she made this great apron, which is reversible.

The History of APRONS

I don't think our kids know what an apron is.

The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, because she only had a few, it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.

And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a p…

Christmas Preparations

Christmas letter done--Check
Christmas cards printed--Check
Envelopes for letter/cards addressed--Check
Christmas tree up--Check
Packages wrapped--almost all done. Still need to wrap Cailey's gift and Grandpa's should be delivered in the next day or two and then need to get it wrapped.

Still need to help Roger come up with gift for his mother and need to get Carrie & David a gift(s). Waiting for some input on that end. I'm feeling pretty good right now.

How are you doing on getting ready for Christmas?

Bits and Pieces

I'm coming down in a cold I think. Woke up in the middle of the night with a scratchy throat. Went to the drug store on my way to work and have been using Zicam Cold Remedy gel swabs. According to the box, I can get over my old faster and reduces the duration and severity of cold symptoms. We'll see.

Well I've got my Christmas cards ordered tonight. Sent them to Costco along with some scrapbook pages. Can pick them up on Saturday and hopefully I'll get them out on Sunday.

I did get a page scrapped tonight of Jaren's visit to Santa. I used Lori Cook's ScrapSimple Paper Christmas Classics, Linda Nixon's journaling bracket, and based on template from Rackety Scraps. Isn't he a cutie. Those eyes are as shot--they haven't been retouched.
